DISNEY, Walt Disney World, Animal Kingdom – Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse have a new home base at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Adventurers Outpost opens today on Discovery Island, and it’s the exploration headquarters for everyone’s favorite globetrotting duo, where they get together with friends old and new.
Step inside Adventurers Outpost, and you’ll find mementos from Mickey and Minnie’s expeditions around the world, including stunning photographs from their trips to destinations as varied as the mountains of Nepal and the savannas of Africa.
Of course, some of the best memories of all come when you get your chance to meet Mickey and Minnie, share stories of your own travels and capture that postcard-perfect photo with your Disney pals, before heading out to continue your adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
NOTE: It is a NEW meet area, but the costumes are the same. The meet will offer FASTPASS+ in the future and provides air conditioning and some Mickey magic.
Eeyore will be leaving the Animal Kingdom at closing of the park on May 9. This means that Eeyore will only be available at Crystal Palace or training meets. I had heard rumblings for a while that Eeyore would be cut, but hoped they would change their minds. Winnie the Pooh and Tigger will move into Camp Minnie Mickey. Pooh and Tigger move into
Camp on May 10.
Donald and Daisy will move to Discovery Island boat dock where the Pooh characters are currently meeting. This will be a return to Animal Kingdom for Daisy, who used to meet during lunch in Camp Minnie Mickey. This area will offer FASTPASS + once that system is completed.
Mickey and Minnie will move into the all new Adventurers Outpost beginning May 12 as predicted earlier. This offers guests another indoor air-conditioned meet and greet for Mickey. It hasn’t been announced if they will meet as a couple or separate.
Mickey Animal Kingdom 2012 Camp Minnie Mickey
The new “Adventurers Outpost” character location in the former Beastly Bazaar building should open ‘this spring’ according to Disney. It will be the new home for Mickey and Minnie and should be Fastpass+ equipped when that system rolls out fully. It will enable guests to meet Mickey and Minnie with a shorter wait, AIR CONDITIONING and a one-stop-shop. The “Adventurers Outpost” will be located on Discovery Island near the exit of It’s Tough to be a Bug and just before the bridge that leads to Asia. It’s not confirmed, but I would guess that the photos would be with Mickey and Minnie together in one shot like they used to do at Town Square Theater.
Here’s how Disney describes the new meet and greet location: ”The all-new Adventurers Outpost on Discovery Island is home base for your globetrotting Disney pals, where they meet friends old and new, as they get ready to set off on their next adventure. Adventurers Outpost is a gathering place, where explorers might come together to share tales from their expeditions around the world. This new, indoor retreat is the perfect spot for meeting Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.”
Donald Duck will move to the Discovery Island Boat Dock area to be joined by Daisy Duck. Daisy hasn’t offered in park meets for several months. The characters from Winnie the Pooh will move to Camp Minnie Mickey to join other characters, presumably Baloo and Louie and Chip n Dale. Pocahontas recently moved to Bradley Falls, which really makes NO sense because she belongs in Camp and Louie and Baloo belong in Africa. Someone in Synergy must have missed that detail?
There’s no word on costume changes, but it would be nice to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy get some new threads to match their new accommodations.
There are only a few characters that appear within the parks during regular hours that offer special Christmas costuming. Phineas and Ferb and Goofy after dark dress up at Hollywood Studios and Duffy appeared as Santa in Epcot, but the Animal Kingdom is a smorgasbord of Disney characters in special holiday outfits. You can find Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Chip n Dale, Goofy, Pluto, Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger in great festive attire. My daughter and I spent a day in the Animal Kingdom recently and met each of these characters.
Goofy and Pluto in Dinoland
Wait for Santa Goofy at Animal Kingdom was much less than meeting him near the Osborne Lights at Hollywood Studios
The characters of Camp Minnie Mickey will arrive at 9:00 am each day from Sunday, November 18 through Friday, November 23 to allow crowds to meet the characters with a shorter wait. Arrive by this time to keep your waits to a minimum during the Thanksgiving week. Pocahontas will offer a different schedule as well.
Mickey, Minnie, Donald Pluto and Goofy have traditionally dressed in special costumes in Camp Minnie Mickey to celebrate Halloween in the Animal Kingdom theme park. Mickey has dressed as the scarecrow you see above (photo taken at recent Happy Haunted 5K run), Minnie has dressed as a cowgirl, Goofy as a cowboy, Pluto wears a special pumpkin collar and Donald dons his coonskin cap that he used to wear at the Magic Kingdom.
The tradition of dressing for Halloween will continue this year in Camp Minnie Mickey. The characters will wear these special costumes from October 28-November 3. This mini-celebration will displace Baloo and King Louie, who will return to Stanley Falls in Africa for this week only.
Winnie the Pooh has traditionally appeared in his Super Slueth costume, Eeyore as a mummy and Tigger dresses for the occasion as well at Discovery Landing. If you’re in Animal Kingdom next week, be sure to stop by and see these characters in their special costumes.
Chip n Dale have relocated from Camp Minnie Mickey to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Evidently chipmunks are the first creatures to sense the future destruction of Camp Minnie Mickey. Those guys should warn the other characters of the impending doom. At least it gives character hunters two reasons to visit this very out of the way place.
Oh, someone should tell WDW that all the Animal Kingdom characters are apparently still asleep at 1:30pm according to “My Disney Experience.”
At least “Mobile Magic” knows that the chipmunks are awake, but doesn’t tell you when you can meet them.
The removal of characters continues at the Animal Kingdom. I’ve been informed that Timon, Thumper, Bunny, & Meeko have stopped regular meets at Walt Disney World effective today. Daisy will no longer offer her lunch-time meeting and Goofy will no longer meet in Camp Minnie Mickey. Goofy is supposed to continue to meet in Dinoland and Baloo and King Louie will move to Camp. No word if any characters will replace Thumper, Bunny or Meeko at this time. I’ll change the schedule as I receive information.
Russell & Dug from the movie UP! are returning to the Animal Kingdom tomorrow, March 25, 2012, while Flik from A Bug’s Life is sadly being retired from regular rotation right now. Did Flik’s crushing defeat to Dale (66-34) in the first round of March Madness seal his fate?
I’ll post the new schedule when I see it tomorrow.
Flik is suddenly being retired from the Animal Kingdom rotation after today!
Russell & Dug from UP! are said to be returning tomorrow.
