Luigi’s Flying Tires celebrates the “Festival of the Flying Tires,” which are actually giant red, green and white beach balls. The object of the attraction is to lean your flying tire in the direction you wish to travel while pushing or tossing the flying tires or bump into other drivers. Children really enjoyed the beach ball toss aspect a great deal. It works kind of like a giant air hockey table with air distributed from below and the tire catches that air and floats.
This attraction is a little more difficult to operate than your typical bumper cars or bumper boats because the tire moves by leaning, and with groups of two or three you must lean together.
The queue is filled with all types of fun Luigi tires, posters, Luigi’s office and, of course, a car lift. This attraction will have VERY long lines, as it has the lowest capacity of any ride. I waited 15 minutes during a media preview that only had a few thousand people in the park. I recommend treating it like Dumbo or Peter Pan and riding at park opening or closing.
I saw big smiles on everyone’s faces, including the big children. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 minutes of air time!
