Heading to Disney World soon for Marathon Weekend? Did you get your email containing useful information for runners? Or, maybe you are interested in running a runDisney race and just want more info on what the weekend entails? Check it all out here!
Marathon Weekend is quickly approaching. Final details on all of the events and happenings have been released.
The Event Guide contains all your need-to-know information for runners and spectators. Here’s is what your Event Guide includes:
- Expo date and times
- Map of Expo (bib pickup and official runDisney merchandise location)
- Transportation for Expo and Race Day
- Road closures for race weekend
- Information regarding each race (maps, times, and pace requirements)
- Cheer squad and spectator information
- Event waivers
- Event safety
- Race Day information (gEAR bag check, food and beverage, and lost and found)
- Post race information (finisher certificate, official race results, and race photos)
The Event Guide covers A LOT of information, but it is all helpful for you to have a fun and enjoyable race. I have highlighted some key information from the guide below.
All runners must attend the Event Expo in order to get their bib. DO NOT forget to bring a valid PHOTO ID with you to pick up your bib. You no longer can pick up a bib for a family member or friend, so each runner will need to attend bib pick up.
Here is a map of the HP Field House showing you where to find your bib pick up location:
Along with bib and shirt pick up, you can find runDisney merchandise at the expo. Check out the new runDisney gear that will be released for Marathon Weekend HERE. I can’t wait to pick up some new swag!
At each race Disney Security is present and every person (guests and runners), bag, and costume is subject to screening. It is important to know what items are allowed and what you cannot bring with you.
You are not allowed to use strollers, selfie sticks, baby carriers, baby backpacks, skates, scooters, bicycles, canes, crutches, walkers, walking sticks, and animals of any kind.
Violators will be removed from the course and brought to the finish line area.
Feel free to dress up in costume, but be sure to follow the guidelines Disney has outlined. Watch the video below for costume guidelines.
Disney does not want to cancel a race if at all possible. Several races have either had to be postponed or canceled due to weather. Who can forget the half marathon in 2017 that was canceled? Be aware of the flag warnings for your event to ensure you have a safe and fun event.
Have family and friends coming along but are not running? Your family and friends can purchase the Cheer Squad package, but it is not necessary in order for them to view the race.
If you want to view your half marathon or marathon runner in Magic Kingdom a theme park ticket is not required before 8 a.m. However, viewing marathon runners at Hollywood Studios or Epcot requires a valid theme park ticket for in-park viewing.
Don’t forget to have your family and friends be there at the right time to cheer you on by tracking your run. By signing up for runner tracking, family and friends will get text updates on where you are throughout the race.
You can sign up for Runner Tracking at the Expo or Text WDH to 38909.
Want to make sure you capture these memories forever? Purchase Disney’s Memory Maker. Disney’s Photopass Photographers are located throughout the course. They will be there at the Expo, pre-race, during the race, and post-race to capture moments of your achievement!
Link your race bib to capture the moments on the course.
Be sure to check out the Official Digital Event Guide to find all the information you need for the weekend.
