Shanghai Disney Temporarily Closing Due to Coronavirus

Because of the Coronavirus outbreak in China, Shanghai Disneyland and Disneytown are closing. Get all the details plus read the official statement from Disney.

We don’t usually cover international Disney news, but we feel the closing of an entire Disney theme park is something to discuss.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak in China, the park will be closed beginning January 25, 2020 (local time). There is no reopening date announced. However, in an official statement, Disney said it will be working closely with the local Chinese government. A reopening announcement will be made when it’s safe for guests to visit again.

Shanghai Disney Resort will assist in the refund for guests who have purchased tickets for admission to Shanghai Disneyland, have booked a resort hotel, or have booked tickets for Beauty and the Beast Mandarin Production.

This comes right in the middle of the busy Lunar New Year Festival. This is a very popular time for Shanghai Disney, kind of like our Christmas or 4th of July busy seasons.

Additionally, it seems that Hong Kong Disneyland is taking precautions but is not closing. All face character meet-and-greets have been suspended. However, full-bodied characters are still meeting.

We will keep you updated if Hong Kong Disneyland temporarily closes due to health and safety reasons.

How to Stay Healthy

This is the time of year when viruses spread very easily. It is a good idea to plan and prepare for any type of outbreak. Frequently washing your hands with soap is your best defense. Carrying hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes are also a good idea as well.
