Spaceship Earth Receives Information and Closing Date For Renovations

Our beautiful “golf-ball” will now receive its renovations and updates as previously noted this past summer during the D23 Expo.

I remember hearing Bob Chapek (Disney’s newest CEO) sharing the brand new information as my daughter’s and I sat during the presentation at the Anaheim Convention.

Disney has now confirmed that beginning May 26th, 2020, Spaceship Earth will close as it undergoes quite the extensive transformation.

The new transformation will bring about sharing the story of humanity “following our long journey from prehistoric humans to today brought to life with magic and depth that only Disney can deliver.”

We have been told to expect that many of our favorite scenes throughout the attraction will be updated in an amazing way as well as introducing brand-new scenes that will tell the story about our shared human experiences and our journeys coming together.

Disney has provided us a concept art piece that depicts the scene from Egypt. We are told that the same scene will remain, however, it is explained that the scene will be “transformed by the power of light.”

Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

Spaceship Earth will include brand new narration and it will feature the theming of “light” throughout the attraction. We have not been told exactly what this exactly means at the time.

At this moment, Disney has not provided guests with an opening date for the updated and newly renovated attraction.

Personally, I hope they do not do away too much with the current attraction as I’m hoping I can still thank the Phoenicians! Many guests would agree that this attraction has sparked nostalgia for many years!

Many guests adore this attraction and for some of us it is sad to know that the narration of the ride that we have learned to love and memorize will be no more and not to mention the iconic scenes that we love such as the smell of Rome and Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel!

Although, I have to admit, that personally I hope there is quite the upgrade for the computer aspect of the attraction as many times in my past visits, our picture failed to show on the screen!

However, I also look forward to the updates and new scenes as Disney’s magic does not fail and the Imagineers are brilliant geniuses who never disappoint!
