Coronado Springs Resort Likely to Host NBA, MLS Players for Playoffs

Coronado Springs Resort Likely to Host NBA, MLS Players for Playoffs

There has been some talk about the NBA season resuming operations at Walt Disney World. While negotiations have been ongoing, more signs are pointing toward the host resort hotel today.

From the first rumbling of a shortened NBA playoff season taking place at Walt Disney World back in March, there has been speculation of Coronado Springs Resort as the host resort hotel.

Coronado Springs Blocked out for Summer

Around the time that the NBA began negotiating with Disney on holding a condensed playoff season at ESPN Wide World of Sports, guests including myself, noted that we were unable to book Coronado Springs Resort for the summer months.

My family was initially booked in the Gran Destino Tower of Coronado Springs resort for Memorial Day weekend this year. When it became obvious that our trip would be canceled, we attempted to reschedule it for June or July.

The Cast Member on the phone noted that Coronado Springs resort was blocked out for those months. We had to choose another resort for our stay.

NBA and MLS Both Considering Coronado

As the negotiations come to a close, it seems that the rumblings were correct. Unofficial NBA news sources are reporting that Coronado Springs Resort will host the NBA players and associates.

According to the New York Times, Major League Soccer is also considering using Coronado Springs Resort for a tournament spanning several weeks later this year.

Why Coronado Springs?

Coronado Springs resort is a unique Disney property in many ways. First, it boasts 2,345 rooms between the moderate section of the resort and the more deluxe Gran Destino Tower.

Coronado Springs also offers a convention center. Unlike Disney’s other resort with convention center amenities, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Coronado Springs is not easily accessible to other resorts. This will offer privacy for the players and their families.

It’s a little disappointing that Coronado Springs may be tied up for awhile with athletes and their families, only because the Gran Destino Tower is one of my family’s favorite resorts! Check out my review of the tower and club level here.

We would have enjoyed the club lounge even more if we’d gotten to bump into Lebron James and Steph Curry in there!

What do you think of this news? Are you disappointed that Coronado Springs Resort will be tied up for awhile? Let us know in the comments on Facebook and in our Facebook group!
