Breaking: Virtual Queue Times for Rise of the Resistance Reduced

Those Disney Guests that will be traveling to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be experiencing a slight changed to access their boarding group for the Rise of the Resistance. Find out how these changes may affect your future Disney Hollywood Studios plans.

Virtual Queue

We shared with you that the My Disney Experience app would offer a virtual queue rather than allowing Guests to join a Boarding Group. The site states: “For guests with upcoming Disney Park Pass reservations to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we wanted to share an update about Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, which will once again be using virtual queue in the My Disney Experience app.

If you’ve joined the Resistance before, you will want to note a few changes to the process beginning July 15. Most importantly – as availability allows – guests will have an opportunity at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. to request to join the virtual queue. This means there is no need to arrive early to the park to check the virtual queue” (Disney Parks Blog 2020).

Virtual Queue Changes

Starting tomorrow, July 24, Guests visiting Hollywood Studios will no longer be able to join the Virtual Queue at 10:00am, 1:00pm, and 4:00pm.

The only available times to join the Virtual Queue will now simply be at 10:00am and 2:00pm.

We visited Hollywood Studios the day that they reopened on July 15th and were quite disappointed that none in our party, even Kenny the Pirate, could obtain a slot in the Virtual Queue at 10:00am and only 2 from our party could obtain a slot in the Virtual Queue at 1:00pm.

We are hoping that this was simply a glitch in the system for the reopening and that Guests may find it easier to join the Virtual Queue particularly if there are now only 2 opportunities opposed to 3 opportunities to obtain a slot in the Virtual Queue.

Starting on July 24th the virtual queue for Rise of the resistance will only be available at 10:00am and 2:00pm.

We are uncertain what prompted this change, but “May the force be with you” to all the Star Wars fans visiting Hollywood Studios.

You and all members of your party must be in the park to try for a spot in the virtual queue. Only one of you needs to log onto MDE. Select all of your party in advance of 10:00 or 2:00 so you’re ready to go. There are no fast passes for any attractions in any park.

Do you have to be in the park and lug in to MDE to obtain a slot or is it like a fast pass you can do before entering the park? Also, can you make fast passes ahead of time if there are any? Thanks for your help!

I think this will make it worse, with even more people trying to get into the park exactly at opening. Since you have to have a park reservation, why can't you try to join a boarding group from your hotel, then go back to having 2 hours to show up? That would really cut down on the crowds inside the park.
