Walt Disney welcomed Guests into the first Disney Park 65 years ago with the opening of Disneyland in Annaheim, California. As with all of the Disney Parks, Disneyland closed their magical gates to Guests due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, Disneyland has remained closed with no reopening date set. Today we have heard that a reopening proposal may be on the horizon for “The Happiest Place on Earth.”
Reopening Date Postponed
In June, we were excited to share that Disneyland proposed to reopen on July 17th for their 65th anniversary. We imagined what a wonderful celebration this would be, but this proposed reopening was delayed pending state approval to reopen. The Downtown Disney reopened on July 9th after being closed for 4 months due to COVID-19. This shopping district remains opened while the Disneyland Parks and Resorts remain closed. Last week we shared that Disneyland has cancelled Disney Resort reservations through August 29th without a proposed reopening date give.

Cast Member Care Packages
According to a tweet from the Disneyland Cast and Community Instagram account, Disneyland Cast Members will receive a special care package before returning to work. Filled inside each care package will be items to help promote health and safety. Check out all of the great items that each Cast Member will receive HERE. We were hoping with this recent news of Care Packages for Cast Members that a date for them to return to “making the magic” would be on the horizon.

California Reviewing the Reopening of Disneyland
According to Orange County, CA guidelines, Theme Parks are allowed to reopen in the Phase 3 of California’s reopening plans. Currently California is in Phase 2 of their reopening plan. The Orange County Register shares that California state officials are reviewing how and when Disneyland and other theme parks may be able to reopen.
CA Health and Human Services spokesperson, Kate Folmar, shares, “Theme parks are not permitted to open in California at this time, under current public health orders. We will continue to review health data to determine when and how theme parks may consider reopening at lower risk to staff and visitors.”

At this time no reopening date has been stated. There has been some chatter that a reopening date may be soon after Labor Day. This is just a rumor at this time, but we certainly hope a safe reopening may be on the horizon for our West Coast Disney fans. We will continue to keep you updated as soon as more information is given towards the reopening of Disneyland.
