Things are progressing over in Tomorrowland: the PeopleMover is testing ride vehicles! See the video below.
PeopleMover
Affectionately called PeopleMover by fans, this attraction takes you on a 10 minute ride through various parts of Tomorrowland. This leisurely voyage through Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, and Star Traders also gives you breathtaking views of Cinderella Castle and other parts of Magic Kingdom.
Because the tram is elevated, this attraction offers a unique view that can’t be seen from anywhere else.
Unfortunately, it did not reopen along with the rest of Magic Kingdom in July 2020. First listed as temporarily unavailable, it then moved to a full blown refurbishment late last summer.
However, our hopes of riding PeopleMover continue to be crushed as the refurbishment continues to extend. Just this morning, we shared we would have to wait until March 1 (at the soonest) to ride again.
PeopleMover Testing
While Disney has not given a reason for the refurbishment, it may have to do with the fact that the vehicles have crashed into each other before. Back in March of 2020, the ride closed for several days after that specific incident.
It looks like Disney is working through these issues and testing the vehicles to make sure they function properly.
Our own Kenny the Pirate is at Magic Kingdom today and shares this video of the PeopleMover ride vehicles moving.
Oh man, that music immediately whisks me away to Tomorrowland! I sure do love seeing those vehicles move. I am pretty bummed the ride will not open in a few days as previously reported. PeopleMover is one of my favorite attractions in all of Magic Kingdom, and I was looking forward to riding again in a few weeks!
Although PeopleMover is still not open and Lunching Pad is reducing operating hours, you can still enjoy the following attractions in Tomorrowland:
Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Carousel of Progress, and Astro Orbiter.
We will be sure to update as the PeopleMover refurbishment progresses. Hopefully it will reopen as scheduled!
