Breaking News: Walt Disney World Ends Outdoor Mask Mandate

Have you been curious as to when Walt Disney World will update the mask mandates? The time has come.

CDC News

Recently the CDC updated its guidelines for who should wear masks and when they need to be worn. For example, it stated that state fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear face masks outdoors, and only need to wear them indoors in limited circumstances.

Bob Chapek commented, “Today’s guidance that we got from the CDC in terms of those that were vaccinated do not necessarily need to wear masks anymore, both outdoors and indoors.” This clued us in that it was only a matter of time before we would see changes.

New Guidelines

Disney is moving full speed ahead with this information. Changes are happening nearly immediately.

As of May 15, 2021, Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs will no longer require guests to wear masks when outdoors.

However, masks will still be required at Disney’s theme parks when guests are indoors, when guests are in the queue for attractions, and when guests are experiencing attractions. Masks will also be required while guests are using Disney transportation, including transportation entrances.

While guests must still wear masks indoors, they may remove them when actively eating or drinking while stationary. Guests may also continue removing masks while visiting the pools.

This news comes on the heels of the relaxation of physical distancing in the parks. You can read all about that here.

Also, on May 7, 2021, the Walt Disney World website changed the wording regarding temperature screenings. Previously, temperature checks were required to dine at Disney Resort table service restaurants. Check this out HERE.
