Refurbishment is always a dreaded word when Guests are planning their upcoming Disney vacation. Find out which attraction is completed from refurbishment to the delight of Guests.
Refurbishments
As the Magic Kingdom inches ever so close to the 50th Anniversary celebration, refurbishments are seen all throughout the Park. We have seen updates to Cinderella Castle, It’s a Small World, TTC People Mover, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise, and currently Peter Pan’s Flight.
One of my family’s favorite attractions in the Magic Kingdom has to be Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Back in December 2019, we shared that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad would close for refurbishment. This was originally planned to only last a couple weeks in May of 2020. The maintenance was likely never completed due to the closure of Disney World.
The refurbishment was still needed, but delayed until just recently. This May, we shared that the wildest ride in the wilderness would be closing for refurbishment! Beginning June 7 and running through June 12 Guests would not be able to take a ride on Big Thunder Mountain.
Now Reopened
This week, walls were installed as crews of workers began the quick refurbishment for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The work began on Monday, June 7th. Yesterday, June 11th, the construction walls were removed and Guests could see empty train cars being tested.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad did not welcome Guests aboard the fastest ride in the wilderness yesterday, but today it has reopened. This is great news for the many Guests that are visiting the Magic Kingdom this weekend.
Just as a reminder this ride began loading at full capacity back in March. This was great news for the many fans of this great attraction.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is now officially welcoming Guests on June 12th after a quick refurbishment.
