Disney World Railroad takes a BIG Step Towards Reopening!

Disney World Railroad takes a BIG Step Towards Reopening!

The railroad at Magic Kingdom has been closed for a very long time. Today it has taken a big step toward reopening!

Disney World Railroad

Skyliner. Monorail. Buses. Disney World has all the transportation, including railroads! Magic Kingdom has its very own railroad, which can transport Guests around the park.

The Disney website describe the railroad as: “Take your seat on 1 of 4 meticulously restored, vintage narrow-gauge steam trains—originally built between 1916 and 1928—and enjoy a relaxing 20-minute, 1.5-mile scenic round-trip tour.

You can board or disembark at any of 3 stations:

  • Near the entrance to the park on Main Street, U.S.A.
  • The Frontierland station
  • The Fantasyland station

A noted train enthusiast, Walt Disney built his very first railroad in his backyard. The Carolwood Pacific Railroad, a 1/8-scale train, debuted in 1950 and featured a custom-built, steam powered locomotive that encircled his property.”

Closure and Reopening

Unfortunately, the railroad has been closed since the end of 2018 to make way for TRON construction. Earlier this year, Disney installed a scrim that looked like the train station so work could also completed there.

This was quite the eye sore but still necessary.

Now, the scrim is beginning to be removed from the train station at the front of the park! So far, just the very top tower portion has been removed. Hopefully in the coming days and weeks the entire scrim will be removed!

The Disney website still has the railroad listed as closed. However, we are hopeful that we can take trips on the railroad soon with this new development. Most of the construction for TRON has been moved indoors. You can read more about the latest on TRON construction HERE.

Do you enjoy taking a ride on the Walt Disney World railroad? Are you looking forward to the scrim being removed? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook.
