With refurbishments well underway for the 50th Anniversary, Walt Disney World has just unveiled the completed look of one of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved icons. Check out the this great new look below.
Preparation for 50th Annivesary
We have seen many refurbishments throughout the Magic Kingdom in preparation for the 50th Anniversary. This has included it’s a small world, Peter Pan’s Flight, Dumbo, Casey Junior, the Walt Disney World Railroad Station, and most notably Cinderella Castle.
Each location has received a fresh color scheme with hints of gold accents to reflect the beautifully decorated Cinderella Castle. These all nod to this golden anniversary for the Magic Kingdom.
Preparations are well under way as Cast Members work to make this a magical celebration for all Guests.
Cinderella Castle, The Tree of Life, Spaceship Earth, and Tower of Terror will be transformed nightly into “Beacons of Magic.” Our favorite Disney pals will be outfitted in Ear-idescent new looks. And we’ll even get a new nighttime spectacular show in Disney’s Magic Kingdom!
Refurbishment Announced
Next to Cinderella Castle, one of the most photographed locations in Magic Kingdom resides in the castle hub. The Partners Statue is of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse. I love how this statue helps to remind us “that it was all started by a mouse.”
Recently we shared that this iconic statue would receive a refurbishment. At first I cringed that embellishments may be added to this statue, but thankfully this was simply to remove the built up oxidation from the bronze.
Partners Statue
Today waltdisneyimagineering shared the finished look of this refurbishment on Instagram. They shared, “In preparation for the 50th Anniversary celebration of Walt Disney World, Imagineers from the Collections Management team recently oversaw the refurbishment of the Partners statue in Magic Kingdom Park.”
“Originally created by famed Disney sculptor, Blaine Gibson, this sculpture of Walt Disney holding the hand of Mickey Mouse has become an iconic photo location at our Disney theme parks around the world.”
“To restore the statue to its original look, conservators stripped the sculpture to its bare metal before cleaning, reapplying patina and coating the entire figure in protective polymer and wax.”
With this recent refurbishment, you can now see the details of this statue even more. Check out this image of Walt Disney’s tie that is now clearly visible. I can’t wait to see this statue in person on our next visit.
