Former Disneyland Passholders have a reason to get excited today. The new Disneyland Passholder program teaser is out! Are you a previous Disneyland passholder?
You may have heard that Disneyland discontinued their passholder program prior to reopening the parks post-pandemic. Today, Disney shared the name of a new passholder program with details to come tomorrow.
Disneyland Passholders
Currently, there are no Disneyland Passholders! Former Passholders were given a legacy status in order to continue to get merchandise discounts.
Disneyland guests tend to be more local, with up to half of Disneyland guests on a given day being local passholders prior to the pandemic shut down.
For this reason and because the operating status of the parks could always change, Disneyland decided not to reintroduce the passholder program upon reopening in April.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek famously lamented that passholders are not Disney’s most profitable guests.
It seems that in the case of California, they felt it necessary to limit the parks to day guests paying full price while getting the parks up and running.
Disney World Passholders
Currently, Disney World does not offer new Annual Pass purchases. If you had a pass when the park shut down in March 2020, there were several options to either refund or extend your pass.
The only exceptions currently being made are for passholder families with newly aged 3 kids. This would be for kids who didn’t need a ticket before but their family are passholders.
They also sold me (Rebecca) one last summer for my foster daughter, so any new family member would fall into this category!
You can also ask Disney to allow you to purchase another annual pass if your pass expired during the shut down or you accepted a partial refund on your pass but now would like it back.
It likely doesn’t affect you, but Disney World no longer offers a water park annual pass nor do they have the platinum plus annual pass option which includes the water parks. I was still able to renew our passes but the status went from platinum plus to platinum.
We will keep you posted on all changes to the passholder program on both coasts! More information on the new Disneyland Magic Key to come tomorrow!
