Mary Blair
Disney describes Mary Blair as an imaginative color stylist and designer. Mary Blair helped introduce modern art to Walt Disney and his Studio. Also, Mary’s unique color and styling greatly influenced such Disney productions as Song of the South, Make Mine Music, Melody Time, So Dear to My Heart, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan.
“Her signature style is so iconic and key to the Disney original stories. I think there’s something really beautiful and whimsical about her style and interpretation of characters in her artwork.”
-Nontra Null, global product Designer for Pixar Animation Studios, Disney Parks, Disney Princess and Walt Disney Animation Studios
Later, Mary assisted Walt Disney in the design of the It’s a Small World attraction for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. The final result is all Mary Blair in its style and concept. Mary Blair passed away on July 26, 1978, in Soquel, California.
However, her legacy lives on in designs inspired by her artwork.

Marthe Hoffman, who designs home, tabletop and stationary products for Disney, drew parallels between her own inspiration and Mary Blair’s.
“Mary Blair was an incredible observationalist, so her work conveyed mood, it conveyed setting, but it also conveyed more about the character than I think we’re used to seeing in traditional art.”
Also, the teapot and teacup and saucer set are a wonderfully whimsy example of their blended designs. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a tea party with this set?
