Severe weather results in a Boo Bash washout. How did Disney react?

Severe weather results in a Boo Bash washout. How did Disney react?

Disney’s After Hours Boo Bash is the spookiest way to celebrate Halloween at Walt Disney World! A recent event was a complete wash out. How did Disney react? Given the price paid for Boo Bash, would you be happy with this solution if you attended and were rained out?

Many Disney fans were dismayed to learn Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was cancelled this year. However, Disney has provided us with an alternative way to get our Halloween fix: Disney’s After Hours Boo Bash!

After Hours Boo Bash is a special ticketed event celebrating Halloween that takes place on select evenings in August, September, and October.

This event has faced originally faced harsh criticism due to high pricing ($129-$199!) and extreme frustration from Disney fans trying to originally purchase tickets.

Fans were also stunned when Disney initially sold out tickets on several nights, and then released new tickets to those sold out events! Did Disney increase capacity to their limited capacity event?

Despite the criticisms, Guests are excited for Disney’s After Hours Boo Bash because all Boo Bash nights are currently sold out, except September 12.

With special exclusive treats, Maleficent the dragon, smaller crowds and Halloween cavalcades, this event is a spooky good time!

A little rain on my parade

During the Tuesday, August 24 After Hours Boo Bash, Guests experienced one of Florida’s most common occurrences: rain.

However, this wasn’t just a little rain storm. This was pouring rain, along with thunder and severe lightning.

Reports on social media show parts of Tomorrowland completely flooded, as is common with a heavier rain storm.

Additionally, many rides were closed due to the severity of the storm. This even included some of the indoor rides, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and it’s a small world.

For an event that highlights shorter waits on attractions with your paid admission, you can see why Guests would experience frustration.

What’s more is it is also reported that many Trick or Treat lines were closed for Guests to collect their candy, and the Halloween cavalcades were cancelled due to the weather.

Disney’s reaction

Guests were quite disappointed about the way the event turned out. Although the weather is out of Disney’s control, they still tried to make it right.

Guests attending Boo Bash were sent a notification through My Disney Experience alerting them that there was an alternative option for their washed out evening.

We apologize for the inconvenience this evening. Your event ticket(s) have automatically been converted to provide 1-day access to the Walt Disney World Theme Park of your choice. Theme Park reservations via the Disney Park Pass system are required. The ticket will be valid for one year from the event date you purchased and does not include the Park Hopper option and is valid only during normal operating hours. Please note, you will not see this update in My Disney Experience app, but you will be able to make a park reservation with the event ticket linked to your account.

Disney

Alternatively, they were able to wait in Disney’s Guest Services line and were issued either a full refund or had their tickets changed to the only remaining Boo Bash evening with availability, September 12.

Do you think Disney’s reaction to a rained out Boo Bash is fair? Would you have been satisfied with this exchange, given the price paid for the Boo Bash? Let us know on Kenny the Pirate’s Facebook page, or join our crew and continue the discussion!

We were there that night as well. In the My Disney Experience app, it looks like the ticket is worded so that you have a free ticket to Boo Bash which expires 8/24/22….?

The power went out for a short bit. We were there. It reset all the rides and people got stuck on them. They couldn't risk that again. The lightning was Awful so it was a real possibility that power would continue to shutdown.
