Some new changes indicate a Disney World show probably won’t be opening any time soon.
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Poor Ariel. Voyage of the Little Mermaid has had a rough several years. Rumors of its closure first began swirling back in 2015, and they really ramped up last fall.
Most recently, the show was taken off the list of attractions on the Disney World website. In case you are unfamiliar with the show, it is a live-action puppet show featuring Ariel and all her underwater friends. Enjoy all the songs from the beloved film, but also…it’s a great spot for a nap.
Personally, I (Monica) think the show is a bit boring and outdated, so it’s a good attraction to get a break in the air-conditioned dark room.
New Changes
Just recently, two new changes have popped up outside the building that indicate Voyage of the Little Mermaid may not be returning anytime soon.
First, the standby/FastPass+ sign has been removed from the entrance. This isn’t huge news in itself because many attractions are currently receiving new Lightning Lane signs. It will be interesting to see if/when a new sign pops up.
Second, and probably more importantly, Disney has installed benches in the outdoor queue portion of the attraction. If you can’t sit inside for your break, then you can outdoors I guess?
The show has been closed for 18 months, and they are just now putting benches out? My guess is they don’t foresee the show reopening any time soon, so they are creating a make-shift relaxation zone.
Other shows
Many shows, like Frozen Singalong and Celebration of the Lion King, have returned to Disney World. However, others like Indiana Jones and Enchanted Tales with Belle, still remain unavailable.
Finding Nemo the Musical will return in a modified format to Animal Kingdom sometime in 2022.
