Having a good touring strategy is important, right? It’s good to know what to expect when planning your day. Rope drop now looks different at Magic Kingdom!
Rope drop
Known as “rope drop”, this strategy effectively means being the first (or as close to first as you can) Guest in line for an attraction. Some people rope drop coffee on Main Street while others go straight to a headliner attraction.
Going straight to a headliner will mean you can be one of the first people on the ride and will not have to experience the long wait that will be consistent throughout the day.
Flight of Passage, Rise of the Resistance, Test Track, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are all headliner attractions with long waits. This also means if you are going to rope drop a park, head to one of these rides first!
Rope Drop Procedures
When the parks reopened last year, there was no rope drop. Guests were let in the park and on attractions early due to physical distancing concerns. It was a glorious time if you got there early enough!
This past summer Disney World has gone back to the traditional rope drop procedures. You can read about my Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios experiences HERE and Donna’s Animal Kingdom experience HERE.
Since Early Theme Park Entry began earlier this month, rope drop is now only available for onsite Guests. See how I managed to do almost every ride in Hollywood Studios without a wait using Early Theme Park Entry!
Magic Kingdom Rope Drop
Kenny is at Magic Kingdom today attempting a challenge to raise money for Give Kids the World. Be sure to follow his Twitter to see how he does and to contribute!
Since Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is not only a headliner attraction but is also part of the Individual Lightning Lane Selections (meaning it is NOT included in Genie+ and you must pay an extra fee for it), this ride is highly sought after for onsite Guests using Early Theme Park Entry.
Previously, rope drop crowds were held a little farther back by Cosmic Ray’s and Cheshire Cafe. Then, as opening time approached Cast Members would lead you over to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
However, this morning Kenny reports that you will now be held closer to Mad Tea Party which is a bit closer to the ride. This will be helpful to guage how many Guests are in front of you for rope drop.
What do you think of this new rope drop procedure? Are you glad to be closer to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train now? Let us know in the comments below and on Facebook.
