A flood is delaying the holiday reopening of a beloved Disney attraction. Here are the details including when Disney hopes to have the ride open again.
“it’s a small world”
Enjoy a whimsical boat ride on the happiest cruise that ever sailed! Created for the 1964 World’s Fair, “it’s a small world” quickly became a fan favorite attraction. After the World’s Fair ended, it moved to Disneyland. In 1971, a replica debuted at Magic Kingdom.
Many either love it (or love to hate it), but it’s so popular there are versions of “it’s a small world” all over the world. The idea of unity is a powerful and uplifting anthem that should be celebrated.
“it’s a small world” flood
Since it’s a boat ride, water issues do arise. First, it makes it hard for Guests to evacuate from the attraction because Cast Members have to pull the boats to the nearest point. Additionally, floods can and do occur.
While preparing “it’s a small world” for the holiday overlay it receives at Disneyland every year, a flood occurred during the refilling process. According to the Orange County Register, the incident happened in the early morning hours of November 10 before the park opened to Guests. The flood affected the machinery that operates the attraction. Therefore, it was not able to open in time for the start of the Merriest Nites holiday event.
According to Disneyland officials, they are trying their best to get the attraction open as soon as possible. It is surely disappointing to Guests since the holiday overlay is only available for a short window of time each year.
At the time of writing, there is no reopening date set.
More about the holiday overlay
Is this the first time you are hearing about a holiday overlay at “it’s a small world”? It’s true! Lights and other adornments create holiday magic on the exterior and interior of the attraction at Disneyland. Unfortunately, Magic Kingdom does not have a holiday version of “it’s a small world”, but I think it should!
Enjoy the classic chorus and as well as holiday tunes during this special time. We hope the ride is back up and running soon!
