We are noticing something strange today with Genie+. What’s your wackiest Genie+ story?
Genie+
It’s been a little over 2 months since the debut of Genie+ at Disney World and almost a month at Disneyland. We are still learning so much about the system that replaced FastPass+.
Essentially, Genie+ is the paid version of FastPass+ with several modifications. First, it costs money – $15 at Disney World and $20 at Disneyland. Second, the feature in MDE is completely different. Third, and probably the biggest adjustment, you are not given return time options to choose from. You must take what they offer or try again.

Strange Things
Kenny the Pirate is at Disneyland this week, and he is sure getting to test Genie+ with various challenges and visits to the parks.
Goofy’s Sky School offered Lightning Lane availability through Genie+ for immediate use. This means the return time was essentially at the time of booking the attraction.
Then, at about 9:45 am Pacific Time he shares that the attraction completely disappeared from the Genie+ system. Even at 12:30 pm Pacific Time the ride was still not available to book. However, the standby wait was 50 minutes.
This is certainly odd considering it had immediate Genie+ availability earlier in the day! But, it gets weirder because now the attraction is showing as temporarily closed and not available to Guests.
Goofy’s Sky School
If you have never visited Disneyland or been on Goofy’s Sky School, the Disneyland website describes it as:
Climb aboard your flight-training vehicle and hang on tight as you take off 3 stories in the air. Zip along 1,200 feet of track on a zany roller coaster ride up, down and all around.
This silly school is appropriate for smaller aspiring pilots—no previous flight experience necessary!
Goofy’s Sky School is inspired by Disney’s madcap “How To” cartoons of the 1940s and 1950s, especially Goofy’s Glider from 1940.
So, what’s the deal?
It appears that Genie+ could have the ability to see into the future. Just kidding! Considering the new paid skip-the-line service is pretty new at Disneyland, there could be more some glitches and issues to work through.
It’s likely just a strange coincidence that the ride temporarily closed 3 hours after becoming unavailable on Genie+ even though it had a standby wait.
Why are we telling you this? It actually brings up a great point that sometimes things go wonky on the MDE app. When you’re in the parks it can be stressful enough as it is trying to stay on schedule, and this additional stress may be unnecessary.
Always cross reference the wait times in the app with the Genie+ feature in MDE. It will help you navigate if an attraction is truly closed. If all else fails, speak to a Cast Member at the blue umbrella or at the attraction.
