Many guests are upgrading to Genie+ when visiting Walt Disney World. But, just how many? Chapek shares the latest numbers. Are you one of them?
Disney Genie+
It has been quite a few months since Genie+ has made its debut in the parks. Disney officially said farewell to FastPass+ and hello to a new friend, Disney Genie+. For a complete guide on how to use this new service, check out this post HERE.
This service did not come without confusion or glitches, that’s for sure. There are definitely a few kinks to work around, but the service is here to stay and many guests are finding a lot of positives and negatives with the service.
Just how many guests are using Genie+?
Despite the extra cost involved, it is evident that many guests are upgrading to Genie+ in an effort to wait in as few lines as possible. I (Maggie) cannot say I blame them. Who really wants to wait in long lines for the majority of their day on vacation? Not me!
During the Walt Disney Company earnings call that took place today, CEO Bob Chapek mentioned up to half of guests (50%) are upgrading to Genie+ at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. This is actually an increase over the amount of guests who were using it back in November.
According to today’s report, Genie+ and Lightning Lane purchases were large factors in the first quarter earnings. While Disney expected revenues of $20.91 billion, the company is reporting revenues of $21.82 billion!
The increase in average per capita ticket revenue was due to attendance mix and the introduction of Genie+ and Lightning Lane.

Other Contributing Factors
During the call, other contributing factors also led to the increase in revenue for the company. Chapek mentioned subscribers to Disney+, the release of Encanto, an increase in theme park attendance and higher food prices to name just a few.
With the increase in revenue, it seems likely that Genie+ will be staying at the Walt Disney parks for quite some time. So, like it or not, there is a good chance that you will be using it at some point during your next vacation! I found it to be useful during a recent trip, but it is quite expensive to use for families. At the end of the day, though, many are obviously finding it to be well worth the cost.
Have you used Disney Genie+ yet during one of your trips? Did it work well for you or did you decide not to upgrade? What do you think of the new service? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
