Unfortunately, not every ride is operating at full capacity on this busy holiday.

Closures

Refurbishments and closures are a necessary part of Disney Parks. Disney has to keep its attractions in tip top shape for Guest enjoyment! With the 50th anniversary, Disney completed a lot of touch ups but the work is never done. Splash Mountain just reopened from its annual winter refurbishment, and we just shared today that Expedition Everest will remain closed longer than expected.

Not only that, but over at Disneyland, several attractions will close for refurbishments soon. It’s good to keep up on these closures so you can plan your touring strategy.

However, sometimes a ride can “halfway close.” Part of the attraction may close to allow both maintenance and Guest enjoyment at the same time. We have seen this with Tower of Terror for quite some time now. Unfortunately, it continues despite it being a busy holiday weekend.

Step into the 5th dimension as you climb aboard one of the four elevator shafts on this attraction. This is my (Monica) favorite ride at Hollywood Studios and my favorite pre-show of all time.

Unfortunately, Disney has periodically closed one or more shafts at one time to perform maintenance work. The elevators consistently have problems, so this is Disney’s way of fixing the issues without having to completely close the ride for a full-blown refurbishment.

At least one shaft (maybe multiple) is currently closed today, February 21. Given it is a holiday weekend, the wait time has skyrocketed to 110 minutes given it is not operating at full capacity.

Other wait times

This means other wait times are also increasing around the park. Runaway Railway also has a 110 minute wait. Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash both have a 120 minute wait. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has the highest wait in the park with 195 minutes.

If you want to skip the Tower of Terror standby line, you can purchase Genie+ for $15/person. However, as of writing, the soonest return time is 7:05 pm! If you are in the park today, you may want to snag that quickly before it sells out.

The two Lightning Lane attractions, Runaway Railway and Rise of the Resistance, are both sold out today. Unsurprisingly, Slinky Dog Dash is also sold out with Genie+.
