You may need to adjust your travel plans because transportation closures are expected at Disney World. Here is what will be affected.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is one of Disney World’s flagship deluxe resorts, known for elegant accommodations, fine dining, wedding pavilion, and Disney Vacation Club Villas. For everything you need to know about the DVC villas, click here.
The Grand Floridian is currently undergoing a large refurbishment as some enhancements are made to existing rooms and a major DVC expansion is taking place. Last May, Disney announced that the Grand Floridian is receiving a grand expansion, as the company plans is to expand the resort’s DVC offerings by adding 200 studios!
Grand Floridian Resort will receive many upgrades.
You can read the initial expansion announcement here. In October, Disney offered a first look at the plans, and you can check that out here.
Resort Transportation
Guests of the Grand Floridian have multiple options for getting to the Magic Kingdom. This is a nice additional perk to staying at the resort. Guests can utilize the monorail, boat service, and walking path.
Boat service offers a convenient option that can be quicker than the monorail (3 stops on the way home before getting to the Grand Floridian), especially at crowded times.
Grand Floridian guests often take the boat when returning from the Magic Kingdom since their resort is the typically the first stop. The boat service completes a loop between the Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian, and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
More Refurbishment
In addition to the other expansion work discussed above, we have learned about additional work planned at the Grand Floridian. Starting March 3rd, dock work will begin in the marina area. This will cause some disruptions to the boat service.
Boat service is expected to be unavailable at the resort from 11:45am to 3:15pm daily. During this time, guests will need to use the monorail or walking path to get to and from the Magic Kingdom.
If you have an upcoming stay, or you plan to head over to the Grand Floridian for a dining reservation, please take this into account. Reports indicate that the work could last for about a week, although Disney has not released any official information about the marina work.
Are you headed to the Grand Floridian this week? Do you prefer the boat service from the Grand Floridian? How will this closure affect your plans?
