New Developments In Refurbishment At A Deluxe Disney Resort

Disney has been quiet about this refurbishment all along, but we have new updates on the progress of a refurbishment at a deluxe Disney World hotel.

Refurbishments are nothing new at Disney World. The company is always trying to improve upon the guest experience. Unfortunately, to make improvements long term there are inconveniences in the short term.

Construction noises, closures, and limited experiences can make for a less-than-magical experience during the process.

Recently guest rooms in the main tower of the Contemporary resort underwent an Incredibles-themed refurbishment. We also have a new restaurant that has been getting great reviews from our KtP writers here and here.

Recently Heather shared updates on pool refurbishments that will be occurring at the resort. In February, we shared that a new Contemporary Resort refurbishment had started in the Garden Wing, and was affecting guest stays.

The Contemporary Resort is made up of three distinct areas. First, there is the main tower that features guest rooms, restaurants, and the Grand Canyon Concourse that famously has the monorail running through it. Second, you have the Disney Vacation Club rooms in Bay Lake Tower that features its own pool area and amenities for guests staying in the tower.

Finally, there is the Garden Wing which is found adjacent to the main tower. Guests that had Garden Wing stays booked have either been moved to the Contemporary main tower, the Polynesian Village Resort, or the Grand Floridian. This was actually a decent upgrade based on pricing for a Garden Wing room.

As was the case when the Garden Wing refurbishment started, this refurbishment is not on the Contemporary section of the Disney Website. On the screenshot of the pop-up below, you can see only the pool refurbishments and running trail are included.

According to guest reports the last two days, portions of the Contemporary Resort Garden Wing are open to guests. Construction continues on the rest of the wing. Based on what is open so far, the theme seems to be a 1970’s contemporary theme (fitting of course), and there has been no evidence so far of any Incredibles theming in this portion of the resort.

While some guests are staying in the newly renovated rooms, some guests are still being moved to the main tower as occupancy across Disney is rather high right now during Spring Break.
