We have a reopening date for Expedition Everest! Does this make you excited?

The most thrilling coaster in Disney World is Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. It is one of my (Maggie) son’s favorites, but my other son would rather sit this one out.

Board your train in search of the mysterious Yeti who has been known to terrorize the locals. The journey starts off smoothly, but then we find the tracks are destroyed and we must travel backward. We see a projection of the Yeti and are sent forward (photo op) and circle back up into the mountain. You will get a VERY brief view of the largest Disney animatronic ever built.

Refurbishment

Expedition Everest has undergone a rather lengthy refurbishment. Refurbishment was announced back in September and it was scheduled to take place from January 4, 2022 to mid-April!

The refurbishment will likely not include fixing the infamously broken Yeti animatronic. Since that is a structural issue and would require Imagineers to essentially rebuild the mountain, that is too big of a project to squeeze into four months. You can read more about the broken Yeti HERE.

We wrote about a possible extension to the refurbishment HERE which gave us good reason to believe the reopening date would not be until at least May 1st.

Reopening Date

According to Disney, Expedition Everest will reopen on April 16th! That’s at least two weeks ahead ahead of schedule from what we thought!

Expedition Everest will reopen on April 16th!

The attraction is also expected to be included with Genie+ through at least August 7th (when it could go back to being included as an Individual Lightning Lane selection.

Are you excited to be able to ride this thrilling attraction once again? Will you be riding it on your next trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Tell us about it in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
