Have you ever stayed at a monorail resort at Walt Disney World? Check out the top 5 reasons why you need to stay at a monorail resort for a future stay.
Monorail Resorts
Walt Disney World’s monorail allows Guests to enjoy the “Highway in the Sky.” The monorail line allows Guests to access Magic Kingdom, Epcot, the Ticket and Transportation Center, and 3 Walt Disney World Resorts. You can check out a full guide to the monorail lines HERE.
There are three resorts on the Monorail Resort Line including: Disney’s Polynesian Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Previously, I (Donna) had not preferred staying at Resorts along the Disney Skyliner line.
Recently, I had the opportunity to stay at the Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I fell in love with this Resort and the beauty of the Monorail Resort Line. Check out the top 5 reasons why I would definitely stay at a Monorail Resort again in the future.
#1 Great for Opening and Closing the Parks
One of the major advantages of staying at a Disney Resort is free transportation to and from the Disney Parks and throughout the Disney Resort. There are many differing opinions depending upon which Disney Resort you are staying at and also which Park you will be visiting.
The Walt Disney World Resort is HUGE and many questions revolve around the quickest mode of transportation to arrive at each Park. In between the skyliner, buses, ferry boats, and of course the monorail, there are many options for Resort Guests to arrive at each of the Walt Disney World Parks.
Our family likes to open and close the Disney Parks. We found the short walk to hop aboard the Disney monorail inside the Contemporary Resort very convenient. We rode aboard the monorail to and from EPCOT and from the Magic Kingdom.
The morning that we visited Magic Kingdom, we chose to skip the monorail and easily walked a short distance along a path from Bay Lake Tower. This brief walk allowed us to easily enter the Park for Early Park Entry. The ease of monorail transportation and this short walking path was a huge advantage in staying at a monorail resort.
#2 Electrical Water Pageant
One often overlooked nighttime entertainment offering is the Electrical Water Pageant. When Walt Disney World first opened in 1971, the Electrical Water Pageant also debuted for “Dedication Day.” The Electrical Water Pageant can be enjoyed all along the Seven Seas Lagoon.
Guests at the Disney Monorail Resorts have a great view of the Electrical Water Pageant including: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and the Contemporary Resort. Our Resort room looked out over the Seven Seas Lagoon and we could view the Electrical Water Pageant from our balcony at Bay Lake Tower.
Guests exiting the Magic Kingdom and Guests at the Wilderness Lodge and Ft. Wilderness can also enjoy this timeless electrical parade. Get a full listing of the best viewing locations HERE.
I remember enjoying this nighttime processional during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 1991. Although it has changed a bit through the years, it is still a sweet memory that people can enjoy together. For the 50th Anniversary celebration, Guests can enjoy a special 50th Anniversary addition to this show.
This was such a special way to close the evening.
#3 Breathtaking Views
Part of the magic of staying at a Disney Resort is enjoying the magic of Disney even after you leave the Parks. One of the great benefits of staying at a Disney monorail resort is breathtaking views. Guests staying in Theme Park view at any of the monorail resort can enjoy fireworks from their resort window.
You can wake up to see the sun rise above Cinderella Castle and close out the evening with breathtaking views of fireworks over the Magic Kingdom. To add a bit more magic to your stay, you can also enjoy a delicious dinner at the California Grill’s Celebration at the Top Fireworks Party atop the Contemporary Resort.
Guests staying in Theme Park view rooms can enjoy fireworks from their resort window.
#4 Enjoy Hopping to other Monorail Resorts
Do you love trying all of the great food and snacks across Walt Disney World? Staying at a monorail resort gives you easy access to many of the great dining locations across the Walt Disney World Resort. KtP writer Jamie shares a delicious guide as she took a snack tour throughout the monorail resorts. Check out this full snack tour HERE.
While staying at a monorail resort you have easy transportation to many great dining locations.
While staying at a monorail resort, you could easily enjoy a delicious breakfast at Kona Cafe located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Enjoy enchanting views and delicious food at the Enchanted Rose Lounge located in the Grand Floridian Resort.
For dinner, enjoy the newly re-themed Citricos also located in the Grand Floridian Resort. This dining location is practically perfect with understated touches of Mary Poppins while also delivering a delicious cuisine.
Of course, our daughter was most excited to enjoy Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary Resort. When we first discussed our stay at Bay Lake Tower, we added Chef Mickey’s to our reservations. Seeing Chef Mickey and the gang with the monorail whizzing by was worth our dining reservation.
While staying at a monorail resort you have easy transportation to these and many more great dining locations.
#5 Easy to Take a Break from the Parks
Do you enjoy taking a break from the Disney Parks? Our family often skips an afternoon break to avoid long transportation times to and from the Park back to our Resort. Thanks to the easy monorail transportation, we were easily able to take a short break from the Park to enjoy our beautiful Resort.
The best part was that I didn’t feel as though we wasted precious park time because of the quick monorail transportation from both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.
