Is new technology the next Wave of Guests Interaction at Walt Disney World?

Do you find yourself missing the many enchanted extras that were once offered at the Disney Parks? This new technology may be the next wave of guest interactive experiences around the Parks.

Interactive Experiences of the Past

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom was a FREE game that you could play at your leisure in the Magic Kingdom. The adventure began by visiting the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A. Here you would sign up to receive your Sorcerer Key Card, Merlin’s mystical map, and spell cards.

Years ago, my (Donna) family took time to participate in the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game. This interactive role-playing game allows Guests to use Spell Cards to defend the Magic Kingdom from the villains. This game is similar to a game that my children loved aboard the Disney Dream.

Unfortunately, the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom closed their magical portals on January 24, 2021. This is such a shame because it was such a fun way for Guests to experience interactive magic. We loved how this game can be played throughout the day. Disney promised that they would offer a new experience, but currently, no announcements have been made.

Could today’s announcement suggest a new form of interactive guest technology?

MagicBand+ Interactive Elements

Disney’s newest MagicBand, MagicBand+, is the newest piece of interactive technology that will take your trip to Disney World to the next level. This band will also light up and even vibrate depending on where you are located in the Parks.

Previously, the Walt Disney Company shared that the MagicBand+ would interact with the Walt Disney World’s 50th statues and unlock special features in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Find out how you can enjoy a scavenger hunt with these statues HERE.

This morning, further information was given in regards to the interactive element that the MagicBand+ will offer in Batuu. Guests can use their MagicBand+ to find virtual bounties hidden throughout Black Spire Outpost. Once they have completed a mission, guests will then return to the local guild master to receive galactic credits.

The idea for missions and locating virtual bounties for a prize sounds very similar to the previous Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. It appears that the one benefit of this new program is that you will be digital and less likely to lose cards or maps along with your vacation. The downside is also that it is virtual so you will be spending more time on your devices.

The other apparent downside is that this will also come with an additional cost as well. My (Donna) children loved the previous Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, and I know they will be excited to try this new interactive experience in Galaxy’s Edge. They will be begging for a new and improved MagicBand+ for our future trips to Walt Disney World.

It appears that the one benefit of this new program is that you will be digital and less likely to lose cards or maps along with your vacation. The downside is also that it is virtual so you will be spending more time on your devices.

What do you think of this new MagicBand+ interactive experience? Do you wish this was not a virtual experience? Will this encourage you to purchase the new MagicBand+? Share your thoughts with us on our Facebook Page.
