The forecast for this week is a bit of a good news/bad news scenario. Get the details on the weather in Disney World this week.
Weather Forecast Discussion
We’ll be experiencing relatively comfortable temperatures in Orlando this week as a large area of low pressure spins off the East Coast of the United States. After beginning off the North Carolina coast on Tuesday, this low will drift southward towards Florida as the week wears on, eventually moving through the state by the weekend.
What does it mean for the sensible weather in Orlando? Temperatures will be a bit cooler than normal for this time of year under the influence of the low and winds out of the northeast. That is certainly good news, so enjoy it if you are heading to the theme parks this week.
The expected surface map for Thursday is above. You can see the low pressure has moved to a position off the Florida coast. That means showers and a few thunderstorms are possible as the low moves through. That’s part of the bad news here. The low will continue to affect the area on Friday as well, but will be pulling out of the region.
Just a heads up in case your trip takes you to the East Coast Florida beaches: expect rough surf and high rip current risk with the persistent northeast winds.
Severe Weather Chances For Florida
Good news here for this week that severe weather is not expected to be an issue. The airmass is expected to be relatively stable late this week as the low rotates through the area. Any thunderstorms are expected to stay below severe criteria.
Remember that any thunderstorm can produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. Follow any warnings and cast member directions to take shelter.
Flight Impacts
This category is designed to point out any large-scale impacts on flights getting to and from Orlando. The struggles and impacts on the airline industry in the wake of the pandemic that led to flight cancellations have been well-documented. I’m focusing on the weather impacts.
Overall, things should remain quiet across the country. We will have a few systems crossing the country. but flight delays will be minor. In terms of Orlando-area airports, we could see minor delays Thursday and Friday as the showers move through.
A Look Ahead
Looking ahead to the weekend, the low this week will push to the north and bring showers to much of the Mid Atlantic and Southeast. Some isolated showers are possible both Saturday and Sunday. The surface map for Saturday is below.
The bigger news will be the return of the heat as temperatures should head back into the 90’s for the weekend. This week in the 80’s feels like borrowed time as we are approaching Florida’s hot season that Kenny the Pirate affectionately refers to as “Satan’s armpit.” Plan accordingly!
