Peanut butter is being pulled from shelves. See what this could mean for some of your favorite Disney treats.
Peanut Butter Recall
You may have read about the recent voluntary peanut butter recall affecting Jif products. According to Jif, dozens of peanut butter products need to be pulled from shelves and thrown away.
This recall is due to potential Salmonella contamination. Jif listed all potentially affected products and numbers for consumers to verify whether they had affected products.
What this Means for Walt Disney World
Unfortunately, there are a number of Walt Disney World recipes that use Jif peanut butter. This means that for now, Walt Disney World has elected to put a temporary stop to the creation of these items until safe peanut butter can be obtained.
There is no note as to when the production of snacks and foods containing Jif will continue. However, it could be any day depending on when a safe peanut butter supply is obtained.
I (Katie) do not have a full list of impacted snacks and treats. However, I have also noticed several peanut butter items are missing from mobile ordering menus. So, if you are planning on a special snack, ask about availability while shortages abound. Hopefully, this will help you to manage your expectations.
We do know that this does not impact foods made with actual peanuts rather than peanut butter. Those items are still readily available.
Gideon’s Bakehouse
While we do not have a full list of missing items, we do know that the recall has had a direct impact on Gideon’s Bakehouse. The hotly popular Disney Springs bakery is unable to serve any of its peanut butter items currently.
Recently, Gideons made a statement. It read, “Officially, there are no PB-based Desserts in the shop, aka Peanut Butter Crunch, Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl, and the fantastic PB&J Cake Slices.”
Gideon’s took to social media to keep Guests informed of the situation. Here is their recent update:
New supplies could arrive anytime. Hopefully if you are there this week you will have peanut butter treats by the end of your trip.
