In honor of its 30th Anniversary, Disneyland Paris debuted a new nighttime pre-show called “Disney D-Light” which lights up the sky before the start of “Disney Illuminations”. The amazing new pre-show will combine video projections, illuminated water jets, lighting effects, mist, Disney songs, and drone choreographies.

Previously, Disney Parks has offered drone displays on select occasions, but never as an endless entertainment option. The great success of this show has sparked a bit of imagination in the hearts and minds of Imagineers.

Part of what sets Disney apart from other theme parks is the entertainment. From street performers to parades and firework shows, Disney theme parks are more than just attractions.

Today the OC Register shared insight into the use of Drone Technology in the Disney Parks as shared by Disney Live Entertainment show director and writer Wendy Ruth. With the success of Disneyland Paris, our Disney Parks may see drone displays in the foreseeable future.

“We send Imagineers around the world to go discover — to learn more about drones, to learn more about invisible LEDs,” Ruth said. “Those are things we’re super interested in finding the right show to make that happen.”

“Here at Disneyland, our guests don’t like to see a lot of change. They want what they know. But when we can do something like a ‘World of Color’ and surprise them and say, ‘You didn’t know that you wanted this. You’re still seeing those characters you like. You’re still hearing the music that you love. We’re just presenting it in a brand new way.’”

This idea is still in the dream stage and would have to follow Federal Aviation Administration rules. It is amazing to think of what Disney Imagineers may be able to dream up for the next level of Disney nighttime entertainment.
