The Skyliner has seen better days. See how this affects transportation around the parks and resorts.
Disney’s Skyliner
Introduced in the fall of 2019, the Disney Skyliner became one of the best ways to travel around The Walt Disney World Resort. While you have to wait for other transportation options like the monorail and bus, the Skyliner is a continuous loading process. You can get from Caribbean Beach to Hollywood Studios in less than 5 minutes!
These individual gondolas take you and your party up into the sky as you see Disney World like never before! One of my favorite views is seeing the France Pavilion as my gondola heads into the International Gateway at Epcot. Many consider it an attraction that must be experienced just like any other ride at Disney.
Disney’s Skyliner has not been without issues, however. Everything from collisions to evacuations cause some Guests to be skeptical of it. Additionally, severe weather will shut the Skyliner down forcing Guests to find alternate transportation. While these problems are few and far between, it does prove that the Skyliner does have its disadvantages.
Recent Issues
Last week, Disney halted operations on the Disney Skyliner to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Guests (including myself, Monica) were met with the following message on MDE:
“Disney Skyliner is currently experiencing a delayed open. Service will resume as soon as possible. Complimentary bus service will be temporarily available in front of EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and between the following Resort hotels:
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort.”
Fortunately, service resumed later in the morning. Bus transportation can be a nightmare when the Skyliner is down due to weather or mechanical issues. It closed briefly later in the day but was back up and running before I could investigate further.
Currently Down
Today, June 14, Disney’s Skyliner is once again experiencing downtime. This time the Skyliner is closed at the on the Hollywood Studios/Caribbean Beach route. Caribbean Beach serves as the “hub” for the Skyliner so this closure prevents anyone from getting to and from Hollywood Studios.
Disney Skyliner is currently not operating. We apologize for the convenience. Please use Bus Transportation.
Fortunately, the Epcot line is still open so those traveling from the resorts to that park still have access. Hopefully the Hollywood Studios line will reopen soon, although we do not know when that may be.
