It feels like forever.
Tower of Terror
One of my (Monica) favorite rides at Disney is Tower of Terror. I love the pre-show, the ominous vibe, the exhilarating drop!
Enter the rickety, elevator-style lift, strap yourself in and prepare to discover what lies beyond the darkest corner of your imagination.
Shriek in terror as you’re suddenly propelled up and down the abandoned shaft—unexpectedly dropping and rising—as you hear the sound of cables snapping and metal clanging overhead.
Refurbishment
Earlier this year, Disney undertook somewhat of a secret refurbishment for Tower of Terror. The ride is not 100% closed. Instead, portions of the ride close so work can be completed while keeping the attraction open.
This creates longer wait times for the ride because it essentially cuts capacity in half. We see wait times reach 2 hours on many days, and Genie+ return times may “sell out” pretty early in the day. You may even consider putting Tower of Terror higher on your priority list for your day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Just a few weeks ago we updated readers that Tower of Terror was still not fully open. We were hoping to see the good news that it was fully open again like Alien Swirling Saucers. It appears it just needed a bit more time.
Update
Reddit user drum freak23 shares a photo that both sides are open as of yesterday, June 25. Once you reach the boiler room, you take one of two sides that then split off even further into four elevators.
According to the photo, it appears all four elevators are open! Even wait times look pretty reasonable. However, you may not want to get too excited.
It’s completely reasonable to expect the other side to close as well so work can be done on those elevators if needed. Since Disney has not announced any refurbishment news for Tower of Terror, we are unsure what exactly needs done. Perhaps the ride is fully operational again once and for all. Or, it may only be halfway complete.
In any case, right now things are looking pretty great for Tower of Terror. We will update you if and when the other side closes.
Are you at Disney World right now? Have you been able to ride the attraction while both sides are open?
