Extra Security Feature Added to MagicBand+ to Prevent Theft

Are people trying to steal the new MagicBands+? It appears that way because Disney just added an extra security feature. See how it will add an extra step to purchasing one.

Disney’s newest MagicBand, MagicBand+, is the newest piece of interactive technology that will take your trip to Disney World to the next level. This band lights up and even vibrates depending on where you are located in the Parks.

Special features display on the band when you are around a 50th statue or during the fireworks. Even tapping into to the parks and your favorite attractions are more magical with this new MagicBand+.

However, there are some things you need to know about before deciding to purchase it. It does drain your battery very quickly, so be sure you save the charging cord that comes with the band and have a portable charging device.

Second, there are some known bugs and issues with connecting to the MDE app. You can read about that HERE.

Added Security Feature

The new MagicBand+ is already an incredibly popular item. The popular Partner Statue design has been in and out of stock since it debuted, so if you want that one you may have a hard time finding it.

But, are they so popular people are stealing them? We noticed a new feature this morning at Magic Kingdom, August 4, that was not there before.

Each MagicBand+ display now has a security lock in front of each row of bands. Not only is it on the bands, but these locks are also on the charging cables that are sold separately (one already comes included in your box).

Now you will need to ask a Cast Member to get the MagicBand+ for you if you intend to purchase it. This new feature was implemented seemingly due to people trying to steal them. It may take you a bit longer to purchase a MagicBand+ with this new feature.

What do you think of the new security locks? Do you think theft is the reason? Let us know in the comments below and on Facebook.
