Disney just dropped a sneak peek at the medals for Marathon Weekend. If you love retro vibes, you are going to really love these.
runDisney
For those who are unfamiliar with it, runDisney puts on several race events each year for runners who love Disney to enjoy! These events give those who manage to grab a spot at registration a chance to literally run through the magic as the races have routes that take them through Walt Disney World Theme Parks.
The experience is nothing short of magical. It was enough to entice this staunchly lifelong NON-runner to train for and participate in a Disney 5k! All I (Katie) can say is it was unforgettable and helped kickstart a more active lifestyle with time intentionally set aside to get moving!
Marathon Weekend!
Wow! Can you believe that it will be 30 years since the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend has been running? That sure is something to celebrate!
The 50th Walt Disney World Resort Anniversary celebration is still being celebrated, and the 30th Anniversary of this amazing race weekend will sure to be a great time. What better way to celebrate than with a 90s retro vibe? You will see some iconic characters and some of runDisney throughout the past!
You can read all about the race themes right here! I really enjoy seeing all the classic Disney characters utilized for the themes. Runners can participate both in person and virtually! While registration for these races is full, you might still be able to register for the SpringTime Surprise event if you want a runDisney experience in 2023.
And now, Disney has shared the medal designs! The photos, appropriately, have a POP! Century backdrop. Here is a rundown of what each of them looks like.
5K – Pluto
Our favorite pup is the showcase for the 5K, PLUTO! He has been the theme for the 5K for a few years now.
10K – Chip and Dale
The 10K seems to have had a character evolution through the years. This time, everyone’s favorite duo of rascals Chip and Dale are chipping in to represent the 10K.
Half Marathon-Donald and Daisy
The Half Marathon is brought to you by a couple of ducks! Daisy and Donald are representing it this year. Does this medal give anyone else Saved by the Bell vibes?
Marathon-Mickey and Minnie
Hot Dog! It is no surprise that Micky and Minnie are the mascots for this, the most prestigious distance of the bunch. This medal reminds me of a trapper keeper I once owned.
Goofy Challenge (Half Marathon and Full Marathon)
This year’s Goofy Challenge participants will be treated to an extra medal featuring none other than Goofy! These racers complete both the Marathon and the Half Marathon.
Dopey Challenge (5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Full Marathon)
Finally, those participating in the Dopey Challenge will receive another bonus medal brought to you by Dopey. Participants in this challenge complete the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and the Marathon. PHEW! This is the 10th anniversary of the challenge.
