Are you a 90’s kid? Get ready to reminisce as two Disney Channel Playhouse Disney shows will soon be streaming on Disney+.
Bear in the Big Blue House
Bear in the Big Blue House was created by Mitchell Kriegman and produced by Jim Henson Television during the preschool television block for Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney. It debuted on October 20, 1997 and ended on April 28, 2006.
The Jim Henson Company sold the rights, which include copyrights and characters to the show to the Walt Disney Company in 2004. However, it is now owned by The Muppets Studio.
Bear, the main character, lives in the Big Blue House where he is caregiver for his friends bear cub Ojo, mouse Tutter, lemur Treelo, otters Pip, Pop, and narrator Shadow. He and his friends have many adventures together. Those normally include solving problems, sharing, cooperating with each other, and developing social/life skills.
Each episode opens with a welcome song and focuses on a theme which then becomes a lesson at the end. Songs and jokes accompany the childhood television show and one of the segments features “Shadow” who narrates shadow puppets. At the end of each episode, Bear sings the goodbye song with Luna, the moon.
Bear in the Big Blue House will be available for streaming on Disney+ beginning October 19, 2022.
PB&J Otter
PB&J Otter is an animated television series that also premiered on Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney preschool block on March 15, 1998 and ended on September 24, 2000. A total of 65 episodes were created by Jim Jinkins and produced by David Campbell.
Interestingly enough, they both worked alongside with Harvard University’s Cognitive Skills Group “Project Zero,” which made sure that each episode included a positive educational message.
The series centers on the Otter family who live in the rural fishing community of Lake Hoohaw. Many of the episodes revolve around the three Otter kids: older brother Peanut, younger sister Jelly, and baby sister Butte as well as their friends and neighbors.
All sixty five episodes will be available to stream on Disney+ beginning October 19, 2022.
