Heading to Magic Kingdom soon? Buzz Lightyear’s Space Range Spin may look a bit different.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Located in the heart of Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin gives you the chance to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg. This dark, spinning ride users laser guns and targets to collect those points and save the day. Here is Disney World’s official description of the ride:
Buzz Lightyear’s arch-nemesis from Toy Story 2 is stealing batteries from helpless toys to power a new weapon of destruction. Become a Junior Space Ranger and help stop Zurg!
Board your XP-37 star cruiser and voyage deep into the Gamma Quadrant, where you’ll take aim at the glowing “Z” targets with your infrared laser cannon. Use your cruiser’s joystick to spin a full 360 degrees, so you can blast all the targets in sight.
Do you have what it takes to stop Zurg and his rampaging robot army before it’s too late? The fate of the universe is in your hands!
You may notice something different
The next time you are in Magic Kingdom, you may notice something different about Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. It’s not bad! Just something a little out of place.
As you make your way through the queue, you will see a large animatronic of Buzz Lightyear “talking” to Guests. He is usually covered with black scrim half the time we ride this attraction. That’s nothing new.
However, the issue is not with this Buzz animatronic! The issue lies in the loading area where you get on the attraction vehicle. This morning, October 4, we noticed that the entire area behind the loading area is covered in a black scrim.
The entire area behind the loading area on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is covered in a black scrim.
Could there be work going on behind that scrim? Maybe Disney is adding some new touches based on the Buzz Lightyear movie that just released earlier this year. Perhaps some work needs to be done to keep it in good condition. It usually has a giant display of Buzz Lightyear and the galaxy, so it’s a bummer this is covered up!
Here is what it usually looks like:
