We have missed Akershus since the park closure in early 2020. We now have a reopening date for this restaurant and some new changes that are set in place.
Akershus
Located in the Norway Pavilion of Epcot, Akershus is a character dining experience. Join various princess inside a medieval castle as you feast on a smorgasbord of American and Norwegian food. Booking a meal here was an excellent strategy to meet several princesses like Belle, Snow White, Ariel, Cinderella, and Princess Aurora and enjoy a sit-down meal.
Unfortunately, Akershus has not been serving Guests since March 2020. It remained closed even when the parks reopened in July of that year. However, Disney and Florida Blue opened a lounge at this location in the fall of 2021, and they will do so again soon.
I enjoyed this lounge last year and appreciated the cool air conditioning, free snacks, and a place to rest my feet. But, I would much rather see Akershus reopen once again! Right now, the only character meal at Epcot is Garden Grill.
Reopening
Check out the announcement straight from Disney:
Lastly, I cordially invite you to feast at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, which will open its doors once again on Nov. 4. This dining experience is found at the Norway pavilion in the World Showcase at EPCOT and gives guests a taste of Norwegian cuisine.
There are plenty of plates at this royal feast, whether you’re looking to indulge in your favorites or wanting to try something new. This family-style dining experience includes Traditional KjØttkaker featuring Norwegian meatballs or the Kylling og Melboller, a Norwegian take on chicken and dumplings.
Change #1: Akershus is no longer a buffet but served family-style.
If you’re looking for some more classic American-cuisine, they’ve got that too with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Grilled Salmon, and Macaroni & Cheese. And what meal is complete without dessert. The meal serves up both a Rice Cream with strawberry sauce and a Chocolate Roulade with lingonberry cream – yum!
Aside from the delicious eats and treats, what makes Akershus Royal Banquet Hall so special is it being home to a unique Storybook Dining featuring the Disney Princesses. As you indulge in the Norwegian-inspired fare, you can interact, take photos, and create lasting memories with some of your favorite princesses.
Change #2: Akershus will also now serve American cuisine to please all taste buds.
Reservations will be opening up for Akershus Royal Banquet Hall starting Oct. 24. You won’t want to miss these on your next visit.
Akershus reopens on November 4 with reservations starting on October 24. Change #3: Breakfast will now be $53/$34 and lunch/dinner will be $63/$41.
Do you love Akershus? Are you happy it will reopen soon? What do you think of the changes? Let us know in the comments below and on Facebook.

It appears they took that menu down yesterday after making the original announcement. What a bummer! https://www.kennythepirate.com/2022/10/19/a-disappointing-change-for-akershus-in-epcot/
