Disney will celebrate National Veterans and Military Families month in a big way

If you are visiting Walt Disney World this week, you might want to look to the sky! Disney is celebrating National Veterans and Military Families month in an exciting way.

Walt Disney World prides itself in honoring our military and armed forces all year long. You might have seen the flag ceremonies at Walt Disney World and Disneyland that take place each day. You can read more about those HERE. Each day an active duty service member or veteran can participate.

Not only that, but Disney offers military discounts to veterans and their families for Walt Disney World and Disneyland. There is even a hotel on property for families to stay called Shades of Green. If you are not familiar with that resort, take a look at Monica’s review HERE.

Throughout the year, we see all sorts of different ways Disney honors service members and veterans. I (Maggie) think it’s a great way to say “thank you!”

Did you know that November is National Veterans and Military Families month? Disney has decided to honor the special month in a big way!

The Walt Disney World Cast and Community shared the following update today:

As part of Disney’s enduring respect for those who serve in the military and their families, we are hosting a flyover over Magic Kingdom Park by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds flight demonstration team on Thursday, October 27 to mark the arrival of National Veterans and Military Families Month in November.

They will do two passes beginning at 9:30 a.m. over the park (weather dependent) culminating in their famous delta maneuver where they pass over the castle accelerating rapidly in different directions giving the appearance of a fireworks display.

My future son in law is active military and was told thanksgiving week (during this alleged military family month of November) is blacked out. So guess who is paying full price for our tickets? Disappointing.

The only blackout dates for the Military Salute offer that I have ever heard of is during a one week period in April for spring break/Easter. However, I do not see that anymore on the Disney website so I'm not sure if it's still a blackout. You may want to confirm elsewhere.

So disney is good to veterans? There used to be deep discounts on the Halloween party……now it’s ten bucks off…..thanks a lot, disney used to sell well discounted tickets for the parks…..they still sell them but once again not so discounted as they were before. It should be pointed out that shades of green is leased to the military and tickets can be bought there with a proper military ID and at least you don’t pay tax. By comparison, universal sells a no black out military annual pass for 200 bucks and I don’t have to make a reservation ……many thanks to universal. Maggie, aside from the flag retreat I am not sure what else disney does for veterans. They don’t even give the veteran the flag when the retreat is over.
