If you’re checking flights this morning, you may have noticed something surprising! So far this morning, flights have been paused. Here is what we know so far and how long flights may be affected.
Flight Delays
Flights are grounded or delayed for various reasons. Sometimes weather makes it unsafe to fly or you could experience a back-up on the airline runway. One time when flying to Orlando, my (Susan) was delayed several hours when the airport closed due to flooding.
However, this morning the FAA called for grounding all flights. At 6:29am this morning, The FAA shared the following message on Twitter:
The FAA is working to restore its Notice to Air Missions System. We are performing final validation checks and reloading the system now. Operations across the National Airspace System are affected.
As of now, US flights are grounded.
This means all United States airlines are grounded right now! And when it’s restored, it will mean major delays and/or cancellations.
Updates
First the FAA released the following statement: The FAA is still working to fully restore the Notice to Air Missions system following an outage. While some functions are beginning to come back on line, National Airspace System operations remain limited.
Then, they released this update: The FAA is still working to fully restore the Notice to Air Missions system following an outage. The FAA has ordered airlines to pause all domestic departures until 9 a.m. Eastern Time to allow the agency to validate the integrity of flight and safety information.
Cause for Delay
It appears that an outage has caused a nationwide delay in air traffic this morning! Hopefully, airlines will be operational by 9:00am. We will share updates here if this delay is pushed back even further so keep an eye on our KennythePirate blog.
All domestic airline departures are paused until at least 9:00am Eastern Time by the FAA.
Are you affected by this delay? Or have you experienced a major airlines delay? Please share your thoughts below and share this information with a friend who is traveling today.
