It looks as if Disney has plans to bring the live-action Ariel to the parks as well as the silver screen. Here is what we know so far.
Live-Action Little Mermaid
Over the past years, Disney has developed a habit of rebooting animated classics as live-action films. Among the movies that have received the live-action reboot makeover are Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Lion King, Aladdin, and Dumbo.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989), which was just named to the National Film Registry, is the next classic animated film in line to see its live-action remake’s theatrical release come to fruition. Its release date is set for May 26, 2023.
Of course, it takes a host of people to bring a live-action film to life. The cast of the new Little Mermaid movie was revealed last year. Most notably, Halle Bailey will play Ariel, and Melissa McCarthy will play Ursula the Sea Witch. Luca’s Jacob Tremblay will play Flounder, and Daveen Diggs will play Sebastian.

We do know Ariel’s Grotto is reopening in the Magic Kingdom. However, Ariel also appears in Fantasmic and the Festival of Fantasy Parade. It will be interesting to see when and where she may appear! Perhaps an appearance will coincide with the film’s May release date. We at the KTP writing team will keep you updated.
