Turning Red

Disney’s animated film Turning Red features an adolescent girl contending with puberty, cultural expectations and her newfound tendency to turn into a giant red panda when overtaken by emotion. Turning Red introduces Mei Lee, a confident, dorky teenager torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence.

Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, is never far from her daughter. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited, she “poofs” into a giant red panda!

Although film critics have been been positive, some parents have raised concern over the content. Whatever your thoughts are on the Turning Red movie, you will now be able to meet a character from the movie.

The giant red panda version of Mei is heading to Shanghai Disney Resort this spring! Guests will soon have the opportunity to meet her. This will be the first character appearance from Turning Red to debut anywhere in the world.

The meet and greet will be available from March 1 – May 31 as part of limited time spring offerings. Due to the controversy of this film here in America, it does not seem likely we will see a meet and greet at Disney World or Disneyland. You never know though! We will be sure to share if this meet and greet makes its way to the United States.
