If you are a Disney+ subscriber, things are finally about to make more sense. Here is what you need to know.
Disney+ Basic (With Ads)
Several months ago, Disney+ released its new plans for users. These are Disney+ Premium and Disney+ Basic (With Ads).
Disney+ Premium provides ad-free streaming. It also includes content on the go. This option currently costs $10.99 a month.
On the other hand, Disney+ Basic (With Ads), as the name suggests, is add-supported streaming. It currently costs users $7.99 a month.
For those who are curious, ads typically play for 15-45 seconds and are limited to 4 minutes per hour. Additionally, preschool content is ad-free!
An Unwelcome Surprise
When Disney+ Basic (With Ads) first launched a few months, subscribers were in for a bit of a rude and unwelcome surprise. Disney+ Basic (With Ads) was not accessible on Roku! You can read the full story here.
This little hiccup reportedly occurred because Disney and Roku were still in negotiations for how the ad revenue would be divided. Until an ad-share agreement could be reached, the channel would not be available as an option on Roku.
Until then, Disney+ Basic (With Ads) subscribers needed to switch to a different device to stream with ads or upgrade their service to Disney+ Premium to utilize Roku.
Disney+ Basic Comes to Roku
However, all of that has finally changed. Today both Disney+ and Roku announced that Disney+ Basic (With Ads) is finally available as a channel on Roku!
It is very important to note that subscribers must first update Roku in order to access Disney+ Basic (With Ads). This is the way to update: go to Settings, then System, then System Updates.
Disney+ Basic (With Ads) is finally available as a channel on Roku! You need to update your Roku to use it.
