Disney has selected a NEW Lilo for the reboot of the beloved film! The fan reaction to the casting decision is making a splash.
Live Action Lilo and Stitch
In recent years, Disney has begun creating a string of live-action remakes of its classic animated films. Soon, a new film will join live-action creations based on The Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, Lady and the Tramp, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, and the soon-to-be-released reboot of The Little Mermaid.
Disney’s cult hit Lilo & Stitch (2002) is getting a reboot over 20 years after its theatrical release. Fan reactions to the idea of yet another remake have certainly been mixed. These live-action remakes are certainly polarizing among Disney fans; some enjoy them and others absolutely loathe them.
One thing is for sure, like it or not, the Lilo & Stitch reboot is happening. However, the film has been in development for quite some time since its announcement back in 2020. Hopefully, the fact that the studio is taking its time means that this one will be done right!
Casting
Most of what we know so far surrounds casting. For example, Zach Galifianakis has been cast. You may know this comedic actor from his work on The Hangover. But he is no stranger to voice work. He played Ron in Ron’s Gone Wrong for example. You can read the full story here.
Interestingly, IMDB lists Chris Sanders, who wrote and directed the original Lilo & Stitch and voiced Stitch, as an actor in the new film. It is rumored that he will be the voice of Stitch!
Disney’s NEW Lilo
Disney has cast newcomer Maia Kaeloah as Lilo for the reboot! Casting directors described what they were looking for as a girl who’s about 6 to 8 years old, loves hula, surfing, and wildlife — and has a special affinity for all things “gross.” They found their Lilo in this precious young actress from Hawaii. So far the fan response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Do you know someone who would love to “meet” Disney’s new Lilo? Be sure to share this with them. What do you think of the casting decisions for the Lilo & Stitch live-action reboot so far?
