Since the phased reopening of the theme parks, park reservations have been required for all four theme parks. Although Disney makes more park passes available at times, it’s a good idea to secure them as soon as you book your vacation. This is especially important during busier times of the year.

When Disney implemented park passes and park hopping restrictions, the original reasoning was that it would help manage attendance due to the pandemic. Despite Disney removing every other health and safety measure, park passes and hopping restrictions remain.

The great news is a brand new change started today. At Walt Disney World, Annual Passholders will be able to visit theme parks after 2 p.m. without needing a park reservation. The only exception is Saturdays and Sundays at Magic Kingdom.

Today marked the first day that Annual Passholders could enter the parks without a park reservation, and we were hopeful. Many guests reported that they could not enter the parks until exactly 2:00 pm. When park hopping, guests could enter the parks around 1:47 pm. This is not the case for Annual Passholders without a Park Reservation.

After the spring break crowds have left, there is more availability to join the virtual queues for both TRON at Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT.

Both of these attractions do not offer a traditional standby lane and require either a Boarding Group through the Virtual Queue or purchasing an Individual Lighting Lane. Disney tech is not stellar in staying up to date, but we were hopeful that guests may still access the Virtual Queue upon entering the park.

The Virtual Queue opens at 7:00 am and 1:00 pm and will remain open until all slots are filled. Today, when Annual Passholders without Park Reservations entered Magic Kingdom at 2:00 the TRON Virtual Queue was still open. These guests were easily able to join the Virtual Queue even though they did not have a Park Reservation for the day.

This is great news for Annual Passholders. We are still hopeful that more changes will be made to the Park Reservation system at Disney Parks.

What do you think of the Park Reservation system? Do you think more changes need to be made? Are you an Annual Passholder hoping to enter the Parks without a Park Reservation? Share your thoughts with us in the comments and share this with a fellow Disney pal.
