Lego Company

In 1932, a carpenter by the name of Ole Kirk Christiansen in Denmark began making wooden toys. Two years later, he founded the company “LEGO.” The word derives from the Danish phrase leg godt which translates to “play well.”  In 1947, LEGO expanded to begin producing plastic toys.

Since 1963, LEGO pieces have been manufactured from a strong, resilient plastic known as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). Since the 1950s, the LEGO Group has released thousands of sets. Variety of themes range from castles, dinosaurs, trains, and LEGO City. Over the years, Lego has licensed themes from numerous cartoons, film franchises and video games. These include Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Minecraft and Disney.

LEGO has branched out to include 10 amusement parks and over 737 retail stores around the world. Legoland can be found in Billund, California, Florida, New York, Malaysia, Dubai, Windsor, Japan, Korea, and Germany.  The U.S. retail storefronts include the Downtown Disney shopping area at Disneyland and Disney Springs at Disney World.

25 years ago, the collaboration between Disney and LEGO first began. The very first LEGO Disney set starred Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore back in 1999. As Disney celebrates its 100th anniversary, LEGO is also celebrating, as it will feature sets branded with the Disney100 logo. The sets will feature scenes from classic Disney and Pixar movies.

The first of five series of BrickHeadz (40622) Disney 100th Celebration are now available for purchase. The rest of the series will be released over the next few months. The collectible minifigure series includes 18 unique characters.

LEGO Disney ‘UP’ House

Just recently I (Marisol) was wandering aimlessly through the aisles of my local Costco Warehouse when I saw the ‘UP’ House LEGO set in front of me. Without any hesitation, I smiled and quickly placed it inside my grocery cart. When I arrived home, I made the announcement to the family that we would be building it that very afternoon and everyone was going to contribute to its creation.

This set is for kids 9+, but this 41 year-old was as giddy as any young LEGO lover. It includes 598 pieces. Plenty of accessories such as a partial house built with balloons, different rooms and functions, 2 minifigures, (Carl and Russell) a LEGO animal figure (Dug) bring this house to life. As noted on the LEGO website:

With detailed minifigures and a recognizable build, this Disney and Pixar construction set encourages open creative play that builds important life skills through fun. Disney and Pixar fans with a passion for adventure will enjoy this set full of imaginative possibilities, with a house based on an iconic movie.

The assembled dimensions of the set are: 15.04 Inches (H) x 10.31 Inches (W) x 2.78 Inches (D). It includes four separate bags that allows the set to be built. This was especially nice for our family, as each family member was responsible for building one bag each.

I was the first of our four family members to begin building with bag one. It is helpful that each bag is individually labeled. Included with the set is a booklet with visual instructions. This makes the building of the set extremely helpful for more reasons than one!

Bag 1 was mostly setting the foundation for the set. The cutest feature of this part of the building was constructing Russell’s backpack. It features binoculars, a water bottle, cup, and utensils. It’s adorable!

The second bag of the set included building Carl Fredrickson, Dug and the solid foundation of the house itself, both inside and out. Progress was taking place. My youngest daughter oversaw bag 2.

For bag 3, my husband was responsible for building the roof of the house. At this point, the house looks nearly completed except for the infamous balloons that takes the “UP” house into the sky.

My oldest daughter was responsible for bag 4 which includes the building of the balloons and attaching them to the house. Additionally, her responsibility was to also build the separate landscape which features more balloons, the mailbox and squirrel!

Cost Prices for the ‘UP’ Lego Set

When the set was first released on the LEGO website, it immediately sold out. Therefore, people were happy to see that it was released at retail stores such as Amazon, Target, and Costco. While the set ordinarily retails for $59.99, Costco is selling it for $47.99.

The offer is available at select Costco locations. It is recommended to call your local Costco Warehouse. Pressing 1 on the call and asking where to find Item 1662186.

Will you be adding this adorable LEGO set to your collection anytime soon? Make sure to share this article with a LEGO and ‘UP’ fan!
