Southwest Airlines Is Rolling Out a HUGE New Upgrade

Air travel does not come without its share of stress. Now Southwest Airlines is committed to giving its customers one less thing to worry about during their flights.

Southwest Airlines has a very loyal fan following (despite recent issues), and part of that is due to the customer-friendly policies that set it apart from other airlines. For example, one popular perk is that the airline allows passengers to bring along 2 carry-on items and provides complimentary checked luggage as well.

If you have ever traveled with Southwest Airlines, you know that it is also a unique experience in that there is an open-seating boarding policy. In other words, seats are not pre-assigned. Once onboard, travelers simply choose any available seat and stow carry-on items in the nearest available overhead bin or under the seat in front of them if they fit.

Southwest is committed to improving customer experience. Did you know they have an “Innovation Zone” at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport where new ideas come to life? You can read about some of those innovations here.

You can also see how Southwest is working to cut down on boarding time and get you to your destination more quickly right here.

A Common Travel Stressor

Southwest is also open to customer feedback. For years, one thing that has plauged passengers travling on many airlines is the inabillity to charge mobile devices in flight. This can be a huge stressor because no one wants to arrive at a destination with no way to communicate with friends and family who may be meeting them or no way to book rideshare options, etc.

It can be a tricky situation balancing saving one’s phone battery with utilizing in-flight entertainment. Plus, if you are taking a longer flight with little ones, you certainly do not want their devices to run out of charge.

Not to mention, suppose you are heading to Disney and need to book Genie+ or a TRON boarding group from the air? What a sad day it would be if your phone died.

A Southwest Solution!

Southwest Airlines has heard these concerns. And, finally it has retrofitted a jet with a huge upgrade. One particular Boeing 737 underwent a month-long renovation, and now it has (among other cosmetic upgrades) power and charging ports in every seat!

Each seat has a 60-watt USB-C Port and a 10.5-watt USB-A Port. This is a wonderful change for passengers who wish to charge devices in-flight.

Southwest plans on upgrading 250 plans by the end of 2023. For now the only members of the fleet recieving upgrades are all Boing 737 MAX airplanes.

Southwest has dedicated over 2 billion dollars to this and several other upgrades including more space in the overhead bins. It looks like they are committed to taking customer satisfaction to infinity…and beyond!

Do you know someone who will be excited about this announcement? Be sure to pass the news along. Are you looking forward to finding a charging port each time you fly on a boing 737 MAX with Southwest? Let us know in the comments.
