After years of this location remaining closed, we finally have a great sign. Check out the current status of this closed attraction.
Extended Closure
Many things were different when the Disney Parks reopened to guests in 2020. Some experiences were temporarily unavailable due to health and safety protocols but later reopened. Guests can now enjoy hugs with their favorite characters and great entertainment.
After being opened for over 30 years as an attraction at Hollywood Studios, Voyage of the Little Mermaid did not reopen with the park. The attraction itself runs 17 minutes in length and relives the story of the animated film, “The Little Mermaid.” It is a live-action musical filled with Ariel and puppetry.
Since 2020 this attraction has not reopened and has since been removed from the Walt Disney World website. This removal was simultaneous with the removal of Finding Nemo: The Musical, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Since that time these shows have been reimagined a bit and have since reopened (now Finding Nemo is renamed as “Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!”)
New Update
Although this is not an official statement, work is now scheduled to take place at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With such an extended closure, many speculations have been made about the current status of this attraction.
Recently, a permit was filed with Orange County, Florida for “General Construction” at 775 Stage Lane in Bay Lake, Florida. A quick search shows that this is the location of the Voyage of the Little Mermaid attraction.
At this time, we have no way of knowing what “General Construction” may entail, but this is at least a sign that work will take place at this attraction.
Later this month, guests will enjoy a live-action Ariel meet and greet over at Walt Disney Presents at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Will Disney plan to bring back Voyage of the Little Mermaid along with this new meet and greet?
We will are hopeful that this attraction may reopen. This prime real estate has remained closed for three years, and we hope the magic may return soon.
