The huge floating barges are gone, but the World Showcase Lagoon is still a construction zone. What do you think of this new work taking place?
World Showcase Lagoon
The Disney Parks are in a constant state of progress as they keep moving forward to future projects. EPCOT is one park that has remained in a state of progress for some time with construction walls in place for several years.
As Walt Disney World celebrated its 50th Anniversary, guests enjoyed many great entertainment offerings. One of the best was Harmonious centered in EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon.
The show itself was beautiful, but the “taco” barges in the World Showcase lagoon were a terrible eye sore. Guests were overjoyed when one by one these unsightly barges were removed. This seemed to be a short-lived celebration.
Work Begins at World Showcase Lagoon
Disney announced the Harmonious would end in April 2023 before being replaced with another show later this year. In the interim, Epcot Forever will entertain Guests at night.
Disney describes this, “The show will feature an original composition and evocative selections from the Disney songbook all woven together to remind us that we are more alike than different.” Featured above is the concept art for this nighttime show.
With all of the Harmonious barges now removed, we are surprised to see more heavy machinery in place in the World Showcase Lagoon. This week while at EPCOT, we noticed that crews are hard at work at the World Showcase Lagoon.
No announcement has been made about this current work. It is a fairly safe assumption that this may be the start of the work on the new fireworks show coming later this year.
We also saw this large crane in the World Showcase Lagoon near Germany. There is also an even bigger crane that can be seen behind Germany as well.
Unfortunately, the beautiful view of the World Showcase Lagoon was short-lived as it seems work is getting started for the new fireworks show. Although Walt Disney World guests may have differing opinions about attractions, it is a pretty safe assumption that everyone is ready for the end of construction at EPCOT.
