We knew that content would vanish from Disney+. But we didn’t expect this series to disappear.
Changes for Disney+
We knew that big changes were coming for Disney+, the Walt Disney Company’s streaming service offering fans a library of Disney-owned and acquired content. At the most recent investor’s call, numerous changes came to light. These included price increases as well as a merging of Hulu and Disney+ into one digital space (even for users that do not subscribe to both.)
Price increases, while unwelcome, are not altogether shocking. However, the increase was not the most concerning news of the day. Many people were more concerned with a different announcement.
Disney+ Content Removal
It turns out that part of the plan involves the removal of content from the platform. Now, some content disappearances are to be expected, particularly if Disney+ agreements for acquired content expire. However, many subscribers were surprised to see that some Disney+ original content was included on the list!
There are some titles we already KNEW were likely disappearing as early as May 26, 2023. These include:
- The Mysterious Benedict Society
- Big Shot
- Turner & Hooch
- Willow
- The Making of Willow
- Just Beyond
- The World According to Jeff Goldblum
- The One And Only Ivan
- Timmy Failure
- Be Our Chef
- Magic Camp
- Howard (Update: As of May 19th, Howard will not be removed from Disney+)
- Earth to Ned
- Foodtastic
- Stuntman
- Disney Fairy Tale Weddings
- Wolfgang
- It’s a Dog’s Life With Bill Farmer
- Harmonious Live!
We also anticipated that there could be some unfortunate surprises to come without warning. Well, a HUGE surprise disappearance happened this morning.
Another Original Series Vanishes
As of this morning, May 27, 2023, it appears that a Disney+ Original series has vanished! Prop Culture is gone. It comes up empty on the search.
For those unfamiliar with it, Prop Culture is an interesting series where collector Dan Lanigan reunites iconic Disney movie props with filmmakers, actors, and crew. It gives fans a unique look at films through the props that helped bring them to life. It included beloved titles such as Mary Poppins, The Muppet Movie, Tron, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and more.
Disney history buffs especially liked the series. In fact, many people were hoping for a second season, which seems highly unlikely to happen now that it has vanished.
Though Disney has not confirmed it is officially part of the removal, it seems likely. For more on why DIsney+ is removing content, click here.
Prop Culture has been removed from Disney+
People tend to like Disney Original content, so there may be some disappointment over the disappearance of Prop Culture. After all, people are very sad about the cancelation of shows like Big Shot and National Treasure.
Do you know someone who will want to know this news? Be sure to pass this along! Are you a fan of Porp Culture? Are you disappointed it is gone? Let us know in the comments.
