Fortunately, we can still enjoy the attraction at another Disney theme park!
It’s time to say goodbye
It’s not a “see ya real soon!” for some attractions. As much as we love to hang on to our favorite rides, Disney theme parks are constantly in a state of evolution. Walt Disney once said Disneyland will never be complete as long as there is imagination left in the world.
Some rides are completely removed while others are rethemed. Some of those rethemes include Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland. Over at California Adventure, California Screamin’ and Tower of Terror were also rethemed.
Saying Goodbye
Splash Mountain will soon be added to the growing list of Disney attractions that are rethemed. The ride opened in 1989 at Disneyland 1992 at Disney World and introduced a new generation to characters from Disney’s 1946 film, Song of the South.
Hop inside a hollow log and float through a colorful bayou as you follow happy-go-lucky Br’er Rabbit to his “laughing place.” But be warned: Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox are in hot pursuit of this wayward hare.
Glide past over 100 talking, singing, storytelling Audio-Animatronics critters who inhabit Splash Mountain and offer up their own slice of down-home culture. Sing along to classic Disney ditties, including “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.”
Then, brace yourself for the big finale—this musical cruise ends in a thrilling 5-story splashdown!
Retheme
Magic Kingdom’s Splash Mountain closed in January of 2023, and today, May 30, is the very last day to ride it over at Disneyland. That means after today you will no longer be able to ride Splash Mountain.
It will reopen in 2024 as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. You can read all about this “new” attraction HERE. While the same 5-story splashdown will remain the same, we will be introduced to a new story line, characters, and songs.
Still Open in Tokyo
Fortunately for you, if you really love Splash Mountain you can still at another Disney theme park. Over at Tokyo Disney Resort, the 10-minute ride located in Critter Country continues telling the story of Br’er Rabbit and his friends. At this time, there are no plans to retheme Tokyo’s version of the attraction.
From July 4 to September 6, Tokyo will also do a more wet version called “Drenched MAX!” so be aware of that if you are planning to ride this summer!
